In their own words
Modern ultimate Frisbee began at Amherst College in 1965 when a group of students picked up a plastic disc and began to play a strange, self-officiated sport. The students called their invention "the Ultimate game" and the sport - as well as the name - soon spread to colleges across the United States. Three decades later, the Army of Darkness was founded to continue the legacy of ultimate Frisbee at Amherst College, and to offer students of all athletic abilities a chance to play the ultimate game.
Today, the Army of Darkness has evolved into a competitive and fun-loving ultimate frisbee club. Building on the great tradition of teams past, the Army of Darkness has routinely finished at the top of the New England Region. In 2013, the team had their most successful season to date, which ended in a 3rd place finish at the Division III College Championships. In 2017, Army of Darkness again qualified for Nationals. The team is routinely ranked as one of the top 5 Division III ultimate programs in the United States by ultiworld.com and USAU.
The students who play on the Army of Darkness come from diverse backgrounds and represent the many vibrant parts of the Amherst College community. We bring our passion for good spirit and friendship with us wherever we go, whether it be on the field or in the classroom.
